Why shop for Vintage & Antiques?
Every designer has a set of favorite pieces – the ones that never fail
to add warmth, texture, or personality to a room. These are the quiet
heroes that work their way into almost every project, anchoring a space and
giving it soul. For me, antique and vintage items are not only beautiful, but
they carry a history that breathes life into a room. They have a way of shifting
the energy entirely—whether by adding character to a modern space or
softening a more traditional one.
As our world moves toward more eco-conscious choices,
vintage shopping has become an increasingly popular option for those seeking unique treasures with a smaller environmental footprint.
In the current tariff climate, importing new goods can often be costly and lead to longer wait times. This is another reason why vintage and
antique shopping has gained so much appeal—it’s a way to avoid those delays while still sourcing beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces.
The hunt for vintage treasures is a thrill in itself. For me, the process of discovering hidden gems at estate sales, local markets ( and international markets when I travel) and online shops like Chairish or 1stDibs is always an adventure. I can feel the history in these pieces, and I love that they bring a sense of soul to a room.
Personal Shopping Philosophy
When it comes to collecting vintage and antique pieces, I believe in building intentional collections rather than simply searching for individual items. I like to focus on specific groups of treasures I’d love to have—whether it’s vintage picnic baskets, brass candlesticks, or botanical and bird-themed framed prints. By shopping with this purpose in mind, I can create a space that feels cohesive and curated,
One of the things I always ask myself when shopping for vintage or antique pieces is: "Does this piece give me absolute joy? Will I regret walking away from it?" It’s a simple rule that has never steered me wrong. I often find myself circling back to a store, revisiting a piece that caught my eye, and if I find myself thinking about it days later, I know it’s a keeper. It’s the thrill of the hunt, the excitement of finding something special that’s just right for your home.
Here are a few of my favorite vintage finds that I always find myself coming back to, pieces that anchor a room, reflect my personal style, and speak to my love for timeless design.
My Favorite Vintage Pieces
Vintage Ceramics – Plates, Vases, Flower Pots
Vintage ceramics are my secret weapon for adding texture to tables, shelves, and countertops. Whether it’s a beautifully glazed vase or a delicate set of vintage plates, these pieces always evoke a sense of history. I’m especially drawn to the patina that develops over time, which gives each piece its own story. I love collecting ceramics from different regions and cultures, as each piece has a unique style that can work with both classic and contemporary settings.

Rattan – Baskets & Accessories
Rattan pieces are a go-to for adding texture and warmth. From baskets to small accessories, I find that rattan adds an organic touch to almost any room. It’s versatile and easy to incorporate into any space, whether I’m looking for something light and airy or something grounded and natural. Plus, vintage rattan accessories often come with a unique charm that modern replicas just can’t replicate.

Lamps & Lighting – Brass, Wood, Pottery Bases
Lighting is always one of the first places I turn to when mixing vintage with modern. A vintage brass or wood lamp can completely transform the energy of a room. I love sourcing unique, vintage lamps because they often come with just the right amount of patina—offering a sense of history while still providing much-needed illumination. A well-chosen lamp can add warmth and focus, whether perched on a side table or as a statement piece in a corner.

Tabletop Accessories – Trays, Bowls, Candlesticks
Vintage tabletop accessories, like brass trays or ceramic bowls, have a way of adding interest to surfaces without overpowering the space. I especially love using them to gather small collections or to bring a sense of balance and harmony to a tabletop. These quiet, functional pieces never fail to add an unexpected layer of charm to a space.

Paintings & Artworks – Framing the Past
I’m always on the lookout for vintage paintings, or even just antique frames. While I might switch out the art itself, the frames often have such intricate detail and craftsmanship that they add instant character to any room. A vintage frame can turn a simple print into a focal point, bringing layers of history and artistry to your home.

Accent& Dining Chairs
Vintage chairs have a unique shape and design that can really elevate a space. Whether they are classic armchairs or quirky dining chairs, they add personality to any room. Plus, the great thing about vintage chairs is their potential for customization. I love sourcing chairs that can be reupholstered or refinished, giving them new life while preserving their timeless design.

Figurines – Animals, Santos, and Curiosities
Figurines are some of my favorite vintage pieces to collect. Whether it’s an animal figurine, a religious santo, or a unique little trinket, these small items often hold sentimental value and serve as a personal touch in a space. They are the perfect way to add personality and warmth to shelves, mantels, or tabletops.
Rugs – Vintage Textiles with Story
A vintage rug can completely change the energy of a room. Whether it’s a richly patterned Turkish rug or a classic Persian runner, these vintage textiles tell a story and bring an added layer of history and texture to the floor. I love how the worn-in quality of a vintage rug adds a sense of depth to a room, making it feel lived-in and welcoming from the moment you step in.
Closing Thoughts
Antique and vintage pieces are more than just decor; they’re storytelling elements that shape the energy of a room. They have the power to bring warmth, history, and personality to any space. Whether it’s a vintage ceramic vase or a reupholstered chair, these items help me create spaces that are as unique and timeless as the pieces themselves. By incorporating these treasures into your home, you can blend the best of both the past and present, making a design that feels personal, intentional, and full of character.
Whether you're curating a collection or just adding a few special pieces, these finds bring personality and character that can't be replicated. So, get out there and let the hunt inspire your next design!
Happy Designing!
